"Beyond the Rainbow: Understanding the extraordinary eyes of mantis shrimp"

Vision is an extremely important sense to us humans and many
other animals. However, animal eyes have often evolved to function very differently than our own, making it difficult for us to imagine how they actually see the world. In no case is this more true that the mantis shrimp, which possesses some on the most bizarre eyes in nature, allowing them to see properties of light that we simply have no concept of. I will share how my research attempts to glimpse the visual world of animals, and why attempting to see through the eyes of a mantis shrimp may be beyond our imagination.
