Re-discovering the power of the wind

The power grid is going through hard times due to the recent geopolitical, economical and social circumstances. Energy providers are stretched, and consumers suffer high electricity prices. At the same time, the Mälardalen area is experiencing a rapid growth in industrial and residential developments. Resorting to renewable energy is a viable option towards a fossil-fuel free world. Despite the initial opposition, wind energy share in Sweden has grown from 2% in 2010 to more than 20% today. So, what prevents us from getting more out of the wind? Is green energy really that green? Is it only about technology or maybe also society, aesthetics, noise, birds, and bats? Still, we can make it to a greener and sustainable future!

Senior Lecturer

I am a Senior Lecturer at Mälardalen University (MDU). My research is about using artificial intelligence (AI) to create value in different domains: energy, air transport, and manufacturing. I teach wind energy, AI, and optimization to bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students, as well as industry professionals. I have lived in the UK for 4 years where I did my PhD and a postdoc on how to make less noisy helicopters and airplanes. I come from Greece where I studied mechanical engineering. There, I experimented with drones and wind tunnels, and also helped building a formula student racecar. I believe that academia, industry and society should work together to make the world better. In my free time I try to do things with friends and be close to nature.
