Forest fungi - Hype or hyphae?  

Many fungi live in the darkness of our forest soils. Yet recently they have become very popular aboveground: on Netflix, on SVT, in the NY-Times and some even show themselves aboveground in the forest…. Is this a hype? Should you care? Fungi have been around for hundreds of millions of years. For a long time, we haven’t understood their contribution to how our world looks like today, and neither whether they are important. In my research group we study the relationship between trees and beneficial soil fungi. We want to understand how they engage into a common lifestyle, and what happens to them when we interfere with the forest. Come and listen to see why you should care about the fungal hyp(ha)e!
